AM I?

My name is Angel, otherwise more commonly known as DOZA. I’m a multidisciplinary creative working across sound, video, music, and live experiences.

I’ve never been particularly good at staying in one lane. I started out as a musician, which somehow turned into recording, sound design, live sound, video production, podcasting, broadcasting, DJing, projection mapping, and whatever else I’ve gotten curious enough to learn over the years.

The medium is always changing, but one thing I’ve tried very hard to keep intact is my whimsy.

I think it’s easy to become institutionalized once creativity becomes your job. You learn the processes, the systems, the audiences, the platforms, and somewhere along the way, it becomes tempting to make yourself a little smaller for the sake of being more digestible. I’ve never been interested in doing that.

Instead, I’ve learned to pay closer attention to how I express myself without changing what I’m expressing. I care about the person on the other side: what they hear, what they see, what they remember, and all the tiny details that make an idea inviting enough for someone else to step inside it. To me, authenticity and accessibility don’t have to come at each other’s expense.

I like knowing how things work. I like figuring things out when they don’t. And apparently, I really like picking up new skills and accidentally turning them into jobs.
